Floristry tuition.
Learn with Michael.

Learn floristry one to one with Michael, from the first techniques to confident, individual floral design.

Michael teaches personally, drawing on more than three decades of floral work. Whether you are discovering flowers, developing your technique or considering a career in floristry, tuition begins with your experience and your aims.

Michael also offers visual merchandising training and consultancy for retail displays, showrooms and exhibitions. Explore that work below.

01 / One-to-one floristry teaching

At your pace.
In your own way.

Learning one to one gives you time to ask questions, repeat a technique and understand how a design comes together. Michael works with your strengths and the areas where you need more guidance, helping you develop confidence and an individual approach.

The teaching brings together floral design, flower arranging and commercial or retail floristry. A session can focus on a particular skill, or a longer course can build a broader foundation.

Begin with a simple spiral. Learning how to hold and place the stems gives you the foundation to build larger, more abundant hand-tied bouquets with confidence.

Learning through making

Confidence to work
at scale.

After demonstrating the technique, Michael encourages students to make complete pieces themselves, including larger arrangements. This helps them understand the mechanics, see how the structure develops and build confidence working independently.

02 / Craft & practice

From the first stem
to the finished piece.

Topics can include choosing and conditioning flowers, hand-tied bouquets, wiring, vase arrangements, table flowers, wedding work and personal tributes. Proportion, mechanics, colour and finishing are considered alongside the way each piece will be used.

For those developing a business, tuition can also cover buying, stock preparation, pricing, mark-ups, presentation and merchandising. The aim is to help you respond to a brief and resolve practical problems with confidence.

03 / Visual merchandising & consultancy

An eye for display.
A sense of show.

Michael’s experience includes visual merchandising for Waitrose, alongside large-scale merchandising work in Birmingham and at the NEC. Across flowers, interiors, gardens and commercial displays, the connection is visual: structure, colour, proportion and the way a whole setting comes together.

For a retail display, exhibition or presentation, consultancy can consider the overall visual approach, arrangement and finishing. Enquiries for practical merchandising guidance and training are welcome.

04 / Beyond flowers

The whole setting.
Every small detail.

Visual merchandising brings a collection together: the overall layout, the rhythm of colour and the way individual pieces are presented. Michael’s work also encompasses seasonal decorations and larger showroom displays.
